Ruto issues guidelines to job seekers searching for job opportunities overseas
By Cynthia Lodite, February 6, 2026President William Ruto has issued firm instructions to Kenyans applying for overseas jobs, promising to fund air tickets to various destinations.
Speaking during the NYOTA Capital disbursement event in Mombasa County on Friday, February 6, 2026, Ruto explained step-by-step guidelines towards seeking genuine job opportunities overseas.
According to the first in command, he called interested job seekers to visit the National Employment Authority (NEA) website and search for credible companies that are hiring abroad.
Ruto affirmed that all genuine companies are listed on the website, hence no scamming challenges.
“Katika mtandao wa serikali pale kwa National Employment Authority, hapo ukiweka .go.ke unaenda hapo ndani kuna orodha ya nafasi za ajira katika kampuni mbali mbali duniani kote,” Ruto said.
In addition, Ruto also affirmed that the website is government-owned with companies from various countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Dubai.
Meanwhile, Ruto explained that upon browsing the website, Kenyans are required to fill in their data and follow the prompts as guided.
“Na ni website ya serikali; pale ukiingia ndani utajua kuna kazi Uingereza, Ujerumani, Ufaransa, UAE, Dubai; wewe enda hapo kisha ujiandikishe na ufuate maagizo,” Ruto explained.
On the other hand, Ruto has promised that the government will thereafter facilitate air tickets to successful candidates, which he further stated should be returned by the beneficiary.
“Ukishapatiwa barua ya kuajiriwa na kama hauna pesa za kulipia gharama ya tikiti ya ndege, sisi kama serikali ya Kenya kupitia kwa uwezo fund tutakulipia tikiti ya kuenda kazi hiyo,” he added.
“Baada ya wewe kuenda kazini kule, iyo pesa ya tikiti lazima uturudishie,” Ruto added.

CS Mutua issues Visa clarity
Ruto’s remarks closely follow a day after the Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua warned Kenyan youths against using visitor visas to seek job opportunities abroad, warning of potential scamming by some recruiting agencies.
Speaking during the NYOTA Capital disbursement event in Malindi, Kilifi County, on Thursday, February 5, 2026, CS Mutua sought to address mounting concerns over Kenyans being lured with fake overseas job offers.
At the time, the Labour CS went on to explain that some Kenyans who were reportedly duped ended up in the Russia-Ukraine war.
He went on advising Kenyan job seekers to reach out to the government, providing a number to dial for proper advice and guidance towards seeking jobs overseas.
“Also, contact 08002222223, and you’ll speak to someone who can advise you accordingly. Some people have been taken on a visitor’s visa, while the government takes Kenyans on an employment visa.”
Mutua further appealed to the public to conduct proper research about the company and ascertain the job opportunity via the National Employment Authority (NEA) website to ascertain its credibility.
“Let’s be careful if you’re offered any job opportunity abroad because many scammers are seeking to lure young Kenyans. Kindly visit the National Employment Authority website, which lists all companies contracted to provide global employment opportunities. If the job listed isn’t on the website, know that you’ve been lied to,” he noted.
