PHOTOS: Ruto interacts, enjoys cup of tea with Rwandan ‘hustlers’

President William Ruto on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, shared a moment with residents of Nyamata village, Bugesera District in Eastern Rwanda as he finalised his two-day state visit to the East African country.

In a tweet, President Ruto said he had an opportunity to interact and share a cup of tea with hustlers (ordinary citizens) at Calibou Restaurant.

“Interacted and enjoyed a cup of tea with hustlers at Calibou Restaurant, Nyamata village, Bugesera District, Eastern Rwanda,” Ruto captioned photos shared on Twitter.

In the photos, the Kenyan Head of State is seen sharing a light moment with the villagers as the Rwandan and Kenyan delegation looks on.

Ruto was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua and his Agriculture counterpart Mithika Linturi among other state officers.

Ruto’s two-day tour

The President arrived in the country on Tuesday and held bilateral talks with his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame.

Earlier today, the two leaders visited the Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture, Bugesera, Rwanda, a day after talks on areas of collaboration to boost Kenya’s food security.

“Our intensified collaboration with development partners and the private sector will further this agenda, enhance food security and improve millions of livelihoods,” Ruto said after the visit.

“Sustainable agricultural mechanisation using the latest technology can transform Kenya’s food systems and value chains. To achieve this, it is vital to share knowledge between institutions and stakeholders.”

Yesterday, Kenya and Rwanda signed an agreement in 10 areas of cooperation to enhance relations.

President Ruto said the Memorandum of Understanding would establish mechanisms for effective cooperation in Education, ICT, Gender and Child Development, and Youth and Capacity Development for Public Service.

Other areas of cooperation are in Correctional Services, Health, Diplomatic Training, Agriculture and Cooperatives.

Addressing a press conference in Kigali, Ruto and Kagame said the two countries had agreed to work together for the benefit of the people.

They said Kenya and Rwanda will expand trade and investment as well as help the region in terms of peace and security.
