UDA flag bearer and Deputy President William Ruto has expressed his concerns about the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai claiming he is incompetent.
The DP was speaking at his Karen office after his meeting with delegates from the International Republic Institute (IRI) and National Democratic Institute (NDI) on the pre-election assessment mission ahead of the August 9 polls.
Ruto said while he has faith in the police unit to do their job during the general election, his fears rest with their boss.
“The only concern from where we sit is the police. We do not doubt the capacity of the police to handle the situation, we doubt the command. We have the most incompetent IG in the whole world and that’s the problem,” DP Ruto claimed.
He questioned Mutyambai’s office’s ability to handle a crisis independently and, in a familiar pivot made reference to his relations with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Ruto said he believes the IG is in touch with the President and could be at variance with the people deemed as his opposers.
He alleged the office of the IG has currently been overtaken by the president making it a rival in this election.
“His incompetence doesn’t play out when things are working but when there is a decision-making issue. He cannot make a decision as he lacks the capacity. The command is done by others. His office is not independent,” he added.
