Ruto arrives in Finland for state visit

President William Ruto has arrived in Helsinki, Finland, for a two-day State Visit following an invitation from Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

According to a statement by President Ruto on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Ruto stated that the visit is aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between Kenya and Finland, with discussions expected to focus on expanding partnerships in technology, digitisation, clean energy, innovation and education.

The Head of State noted that the engagement also seeks to open new opportunities for investment, job creation and shared prosperity between the two countries.

“Arrived in Helsinki, Finland, for a two-day State Visit at the gracious invitation of President Alexander Stubb,” Ruto stated.

“We look forward to deepening economic ties, strengthening partnerships in technology, digitisation, clean energy, innovation and education, and advancing new opportunities for investment, job creation and shared prosperity.”

Ruto’s state visits

Ruto travelled to Helsinki after a series of high-level meetings in Oslo, Norway, where he urged Norwegian businesses to expand investments in Kenya and use the country as a gateway to the wider African market.

Kenya is expected to use the visit to position itself as a strategic gateway for Nordic investment into East Africa, particularly in technology, green energy, education, and innovation sectors.

“The President of the Republic of Kenya, William Samoei Ruto, and his wife, Rachel Ruto, will arrive on a state visit to Finland on 10–11 June 2026. The visit will be hosted by the President of the Republic, Alexander Stubb, together with his wife, Suzanne Innes-Stubb,” the statement shared by the Office of the President of the Republic of Finland on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 read.

“The key themes of the state visit are deepening bilateral relations between Finland and Kenya and strengthening cooperation between the countries in international contexts, reforming the multilateral system, and promoting trade between Finland and Kenya.”
