Ruto appoints former IEBC boss Issack Hassan, Charles Njagua and 9 others after MPs’ approval

President William Ruto has appointed 11 people for the position of chairperson and members at the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) Board, Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), and the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) after approval by the Members of Parliament.

The 11 include former chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Issack Hassan who has been appointed as the chairperson for IPOA.

In addition, the Head of State has appointed a team of seven to the IPOA’s board, the members include, Dr Annette Mudola Mbogoh, Ken Williams Nyakomitah, Ann Waniku Mwangi, Boniface Kipkemoi Samati, Jackline Lukalo Mwenesi, John Muchiri Nyaga and Dr Micah Onyirgo Nyakego.

In a gazette notice published on Thursday, December 5, 2024, Ruto also appointed Rehema Dida Jaldesa to be the chairperson of NGEC and Micheal Mbithuka Nzomo as a member.

Charles Orinda Dulo is now the chairperson of CAJ while Charles Njagua Kanyi and Dorothy Jemator Kimengech as members of the commission.

MPs’ approval

On November 27, 2024, MPs unanimously agreed to approve all of Ruto’s nominees for the positions of Chairperson and Members of the Board paving the way for them to assume office.
