President William Ruto and his deputy, Kithure Kindiki, are in Meru County attending a church service at the AIPCA Kathelwa church in Igembe Central.

A spot check by People Daily Digital saw the presidential convoy making its way into the constituency at 10:00 am ahead of the scheduled church service.

According to the church clergy, the president will later oversee a fundraising function. The church is seeking to raise 51 million towards the completion of its new premises.

“We have plans to build a new church. Our budget for the project is close to Ksh51 million to complete it. The church has so far raised Ksh13 million, and we remain short of Ksh38 million to complete it.”

“We ask you for your help to finish the project as the faithful of this church. We are hopeful that you will be able to help us realise our aspirations,” the St Mary’s AIPCA chair, Isaac Muthura, implored with Ruto.

Other leaders from the region present at the event include Governor Isaac Mutuma, her deputy Linda Kiome, Water CS Eric Muuga, and Senate Deputy Speaker Kathuri Murungi

Others include area MP Daniel Kariitho, Mpuri Aburi, John Mutunga, Rahiim Dawood, and JohnPaul Mwirigi, among others.

Kindiki on Ruto’s dwindling support

Ruto’s visit comes days after Kindiki openly acknowledged that the president lacks sufficient support from the region.

Speaking in Meru on Friday, September 19, 2025, the DP, who hails from the neighbouring Tharaka Nithi County, vowed to rally the region behind the head of state.

“I cannot be a DP, and here in Meru, the President has no support. I will do everything possible to make sure he is respected and supported because we have seen what he has done and what he will do,” Kithure Kindiki said.
