Kenya Kwanza allied candidate Justus Ngussur Kilesi has been elected the Speaker of Kajiado County Assembly after defeating Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition candidate Koin Lompo Papaa.

Ngussur who is set to take over from a two-term speaker Johnson Osoi is a two term Member of County Assembly (MCA) who represented Ewuaso Kidong’ between 2013 and 2022.

He won with a simple majority after a second round of voting by the 40 MCAs.

In the first round, Ngussur garnered 25 votes against his competitor Lompo who garnered 15.

In the second round, the candidates garned 26 and 14 votes respectively and thereafter Ngussur declared winner by the assembly clerk Leboo Saisa.

In his acceptance speech, he pledged to spearhead legislations that will ensure the well being of Kajiado residents besides ensuring checks and balances of the executive.

He also promised to unite all ward reps irrespective of their party affiliations.

One nominated MCA representing people living with disability was not sworn in after she failed to meet the threshold and provide required documents to prove to be a person abled differently.

Kajiado has 25 elected MCAs who are all male and the slots of 16 nominated ones were reserved for women.

Activists have however threatened to go to court to quash nomination of an Azimio candidate whom they say is not a resident and a voter of Kajiado.
