Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has hit out at criticism from opposition politicians, claiming that the region has not achieved any meaningful development under President William Ruto’s administration.

Speaking on Sunday, October 5, 2025, the CS took a swipe at his predecessor, Justin Muturi, and former senator Lenny Kivuti for slighting Ruto’s projects in the region.

Govt projects

“I want to tell him (Kivuti), there is a multi-million dollar road that passes right through his house. There are also water projects and the Muthakari road passing at JB’s that has been tarmacked this week. All these have been done by President Ruto,” he stated.

Advancing selfish interest

The politician singled out the two for advancing selfish interests, emphasising that they will not accept following such leaders.

“As Mbeere North people, we will not accept being taken to the wilderness by people who want only good things for themselves. A person who wants us to be lining up at his home while begging,” he posited.

On the upcoming by-elections, the CS assured that the Mbeere North residents remain united and would elect a candidate of their choice in the coming mini-polls on November 27, 2025.

“The way the people of Mbeere have been united since I assumed office is the way they will remain even when we head to the polls in November,” he stated.

His scathing attacks come days after he made a similar salvo at Kivuti for his slighting remarks about the Kenya Kwanza development record in the region.

In an address on Saturday, September 23, 2025, Ruku castigated the politician for attempting to deny the regions the right to benefit from the development projects initiated by the government.

“He said while at Kanyuombora that no development has been undertaken in Mbeere North, when there is a tarmac road starting right at his doorstep. Where does one get the audacity to say that?” he posed.

Adding that:

“Let the people stop propaganda. The people of Mbeere North have decided they will stay in the Kenya Kwanza government, and the person they will elect in November is none other than Leonard Muthende as their MP,” he added.

Newton Karish of the Democratic Party and Muthende of UDA are expected to battle it out for the seat in what pundits predict will be a fierce contest between the opposition and a government-backed candidate.
