Ruku: Loss of lives through perennial floods, droughts cannot continue
Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, has vowed that the government will resettle residents of Tana River County who were affected by floods.
The former Mbeere North Member of Parliament has also added that the government has already acquired land for that purpose.
“The government will continue to support the people of Tana River County through resettlement to habitable grounds. Loss of lives through perennial floods and droughts cannot continue,” Ruku vowed during his tour of the Tana River County, where he interacted with residents from Hola Town in the Galole Constituency on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
“The government is acquiring enough land for the resettlement of victims of floods in Tana River County.
“The people of Tana River have borne the brunt of perennial droughts and floods for a long time. The government has invested heavily in its relocation to higher ground through the acquisition of land and subsequent resettlement,” he added.

The Cabinet Secretary also delivered emergency relief for the affected families.
“As part of the government’s intervention in Tana River County, today and through Special Programmes, we flagged off emergency relief supplies to support vulnerable families in Galole Constituency, especially during this time of heavy rains,” Ruku confirmed.
“I was accompanied by the area Member of Parliament, Said Buya, National Government Administration Officers and other grassroots leaders.”
