Rigathi Gachagua: Late Ol Kalou MP Kiaraho battled cancer with resilience
Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizen’s Party (DCP) party leader Rigathi Gachagua has joined tributes to the late Ol Kalou Member of Parliament David Njuguna Kiaraho, describing him as a resilient leader who battled cancer with remarkable courage.
In a heartfelt message of condolence on his X handle on Sunday, March 29, 2026, Gachagua said he received the news of Kiaraho’s passing with deep sorrow, noting that the country has lost a committed public servant who served his constituents with unwavering dedication.
“I had the privilege of serving alongside him in the 12th Parliament and on the Transport Committee. We shared a strong friendship…. Hon. Kiaraho served the people of Ol Kalou with resolute dedication. He faced his battle with cancer courageously and with resilience,” Gachagua stated.

He remembered the late legislator as a jovial, approachable, and kind-hearted individual who easily connected with colleagues and constituents alike. According to Gachagua, Kiaraho’s leadership was defined not only by his service but also by his personal character and ability to unite people.
Gachagua further paid tribute to Kiaraho’s strength during his illness, saying he faced his battle with cancer bravely and with resilience, inspiring many who knew him.
The former deputy president extended his deepest condolences to the family of the late MP, acknowledging the immense loss they are enduring during this difficult time. He also sympathised with the people of Ol Kalau, noting that they had lost a true representative who championed their interests.
“To the people of Ol Kalau, you have lost a dedicated leader and a true representative. My deepest sympathies are with you all,” Gachagua added.
Kiaraho’s demise
Kiaraho died at around 1:20 am on Sunday, March 29, 2026, while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital, following a prolonged illness. He had been in and out of the hospital in recent months, seeking medical attention both locally and abroad.
In an official communication issued by the Speaker, Wetang’ula appointed Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku to chair the funeral preparation committee, with Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau serving as his deputy. The two will work alongside seven other members to coordinate the arrangements, liaise with the family, and plan a befitting send-off.

“In this regard, I have appointed members to the Funeral Preparation Committee to liaise with the family and coordinate a befitting send-off for the late Hon. Kiaraho. The Member will lead the team for Kinangop, the Hon. Kwenya Thuku, MP, assisted by the Member for Nyandarua, the Hon. Faith Gitau, CBS, MP, and seven (7) other Hon. Members,” Wetang’ula stated.
Kiaraho was serving his third term as a member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency, having first been elected during the 2013 general elections. In Parliament, he served on the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure and the Procedure and House Rules Committee, where he contributed to legislative work and oversight. He was among the legislators reelected on a Jubilee Party ticket in the 2022 general elections.
