A section of the elected United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders in Rift Valley has exuded confidence that Supreme Court will uphold William Ruto’s win in August polls.

Speaking on Saturday, September 3, 2022, during the burial of former Sotik Member of Parliament Anthony Kimetto, the leaders led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen said the elections were free and fair and they do not expect the court to rule otherwise.

Murkomen said there was no cause to worry asking Kenyans not to fear but maintain peace.

He also asked Kenyans to remember the judges who are set to give their verdict led by Chief Justice Martha Koome in prayers.

“The judges asked for prayers; remember them and pray for them so that they may not only do justice but justice is also seen through their work,” he said.

“We will not add anything to what has been done in court. We saw the lies and facts being laid on the table and all we are doing is wait,” he added.

Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok shared Murkomen’s sentiments saying Kenyans should prepare for the second round of celebrations.

He however said there was a need to trust the process and leaders should learn to accept the outcome to avoid situations where courts get to decide who leads.

“What Kenyans decide in the ballot should be respected and the habit that court has to always decide for us who takes office should stop,” Barchok added.

Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu who read president-elect Wiliam Ruto’s condolence message said the country should prepare for Ruto’s swearing-in.

Ntutu said there was not a question of if but when to swear in Ruto which would be on September 13, 2022.

The leaders, at the same time, vowed to push the incoming government to roll out development for the region.

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, for instance, that they have earmarked the need for a referral health facility in South Rift.

Cheruiyot said to stop the long travels to Kenyatta Referral and Moi Teaching Hospitals by locals they will be pushing for the construction of a facility in South Rift.

“We are prepared to start working and once Ruto is sworn in we will want a new hospital in South Rift,” he said.

The leaders also called for unity saying the development will only be witnessed when the region speaks with one voice.

Also present were Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno and Nelson Koech (Belgut).

The leaders hailed Kimetto saying he displayed unique leadership that should be emulated.

A former MP who served with the late Kimetto in 8th and 9th Parliament described him as a selfless leader who fought tirelessly to ensure Sotik residents benefitted from government services.

KANU SG Nick Salat said Kimetto persistently pushed for the creation of Sotik District.
