Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has called on the National Government to resume construction of the stalled Itare Dam project.

Governor said the project’s primary objective was to not only address the perennial water shortage in Kuresoi sub-county, but the entire region.

While acknowledging the project  has an array of challenges ranging from compensation, alleged flawed procurement processes and numerous court cases, he observed a new company could be given the green light to complete the project.

“Our water sources remain limited as a county and we’ve had several engagements with the National Government on the same.

On completion, the Itare Dam would have solved all the water problems,” said Kinyanjui.

Project was abandoned at 49 per cent after  Co-operativa Muratoi Cementisti Di Ravenna, which was supposed to complete it by 2021, filed for bankruptcy.

Speaking during the swearing in of Executive Members for Roads and Public Service yesterday, Kinyanjui said with the growing population, demand for water had gone up.
