Retire from active politics, Alice Wahome urges Uhuru

Kandara Member of Parliament (MP) Alice Wahome has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to retire from active politics after completing his term in office.
Wahome said Uhuru should not in any way try to manipulate the succession and transition of power, adding that people should be left to decide who should take over the leadership of the country.
Addressing the media in Murang’a on Sunday, the MP said the country has no room for manipulative and authoritative political power games as it is a democratic nation.
“The President should accept that his term has come to an end and he should leave in honour and let the country be rebuilt,” she said.
She also warned the international community not to try to facilitate his stay in power in any form.
She further claimed that Uhuru has been using ODM leader Raila Odinga as a special purpose vehicle to remain in power indirectly.
Wahome, who has been a fierce critic of the President said two years ago, she warned that the country was being dragged back to dark days and the turn of events in the country have demonstrated so.
“He has unleashed the Uhuru gulag of State of terror against the people of Kenya. He has also succeeded in capturing, compromising and weaponizing State institutions for his political reasons,” her statement read in part.
She said the President has been fueling and conducting a coup against the constitution which he ought to defend and protect as per the oath of office he took while being sworn in.
Wahome also said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) must strive to conduct credible reputable elections and raise its integrity bar.
“An election must at the end of the day be a true reflection of the will of the people as decreed by the constitution through its principles of transparency, accountability, accuracy and efficiency,” she added.
The MP who is a close ally of deputy president William Ruto also drummed up support for the UDA party and its bottom-up agenda, saying the model will help rebuild the economy of the country.
