Residents of Mandera County now want the government to take action on a man who stabbed their kin and fled to Somalia.

The residents and the family of the victim; Hashim Okash Mohammed stormed into the Directorate of Criminal Investigation office in Mandera seeking justice of their kin.

The deceased was stabbed to death by a Somalia National Maalim Abdi Nur who later fled to Somalia to avoid being apprehended, his accomplice Maalim Nur is in police custody and is expected to face murder charges at Garissa High Court.

The residents decried about the insecurity situation in Mandera town saying they were being killed aimlessly with the culprits fleeing to Somalia.

“We have lost seven people though killings where the suspects flee to Somalia. This is caused by issuance of identity card to foreigners as the same people commit crime and continue crossing the border,” said one resident.

They appealed to the government to increase security officers and ensure peace reign in the county.

The DCIO officer in the County, Pius Gitari requested the family and the residents to be calm to allow the cause of justice to take place.

He said security officers were making efforts to apprehend the suspect who fled to Somalia.

“One suspect has been arrested…an application  was done to detain for further investigations….statements and evidence  have been and the person will be charged in Garissa High Court,” said the officer.

Lawyers Danstan Omari and Shadrack Wambui stated they will follow up the matter to ensure justice is served to the family.
