Reprieve for market traders as court restrains eviction bid
Wakulima market traders have got a reprieve after the High Court issued an order stopping their planned eviction.
Milimani High Court judge Bahati Mwamuye suspended the notice issued by the Nairobi City County requiring the traders leave the market to Kangundo Road market.
“Pending inter parties hearing and determination of this application, an order is hereby issued restraining the county from evicting the traders operating within or in the vicinity of Wakulima Market, Nairobi or interfering with their business operations in those areas,” Justice Mwamuye ordered.
The judge also directed the traders and the county to further hold a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the issue at hand and report to the court regarding the same.
The orders came following a case filed by the Wakulima Market Traders Association. The County Secretary had issued a notice on September 10 demanding the immediate.
