Rashid Aman: There is nothing we can do about leaders convening meetings

Health Ministry Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman has said there is nothing his docket can do against leaders convening meetings contrary to the social distancing and the movement-ban rules in the fight against Covid-19.

Mr. Rashid said for political leaders, ‘other sectors’ are implementing the punitive measures, not mentioning the sectors.

“For political leaders, I will not comment on that because there are other sectors implementing the measures and we will leave it to them,” said Mr. Rashid.

On Friday, over 40 leaders from the Luhya community met at the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli’s home in Kajiado County.

The politicians were accused of flouting the public health rules on ban of gatherings and cessation of movement.

People Daily learnt that most of the leaders traveled from as far as Western Kenya.

Covid-19 cases

The CAS was addressing the 75th Covid-19 update at Afya house on Saturday where he also confirmed 143 new coronavirus cases.

Mr. Rashid also reported 26 more discharges and 1 fatality of a 59-year-old man. The total fatalities stood at 63, recoveries at 464 and all cases at 1888.
