Parents and teachers at Rapogi High School, in Migori County, have decried an acute shortage of teachers hampering effective delivery of the curriculum.

Consequently, they want the Teachers service commission (TSC), to employ and deploy more teachers to the school to ensure smooth curriculum implementation.

Led by the secretary of the Board of Management who is also the PTA chairman, Gilchrist Okuom, the parents said the acute shortage was affecting their academic programs because they have to devise ways to make sure the syllabus is covered as programmed.

So, because the teachers shortage, the BoM , are forced to hire BOM teachers.

In some instances, the teachers are forced to go extra miles to ensure effective coverage of the syllabus each academic cycle at times working extra hours just to make sure all goes according to the curricular schedule.

Currently there are only 64 teachers employed by

TSC. The rest are temporary staff recruited by the Board.

“BOM teachers are 42. The Shortage is  70 teacher’s against the CBE,” said the school senior principal Erastus Nyagwa.

Nyagwa thanked the parents for their moral, material and enduring support to make the school succeeds in it’s management.
