Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has been charged before a Nairobi court with giving false information to a person employed in public service.

According to the charge sheet, the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has charged Tuju with giving false information contrary to section 129(a) of the Penal Code.

The prosecution avers that on March 21, 2026, Tuju at Entim Sidai Spa and Wellness Sanctuary in Karen, within Lang’ata Subcounty, informed the Karen Police Station Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Purity Kobia that he was being traced by unknown assailants and later abducted.

Appearing before Kibera Law Courts Chief Magistrate Stellar Atambo on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Tuju has denied the charge lodged against him by the State.

Magistrate Atambo noted that a plea of not guilty has been entered by the court.

“A plea of not guilty has been entered,” said Magistrate Atambo.

Meanwhile, Tuju’s lawyers requested the court to consider granting him a reasonable bond and bail terms.

Further, the defence urged the court to consider his health status while granting the bond and bail.

The prosecution told the court that they have no instructions to oppose Tuju being released on bond and bail.

In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Atambo has granted the Tuju a personal bond of Ksh100,000 with one contact person.

“I have considered the application of bond and bail made by the defence and the accused person, and he is hereby released on a personal bond of Ksh100,000 with one contact person,” Magistrate Atambo ruled.

She further directed the prosecution to provide the defence with copies of all the documents needed for the case proceedings before the next court session.

On the application by the defence concerning Tuju’s vehicle detained at Karen Police Station, the court ruled that the defence and prosecution should agree with the investigative officer to have it photographed and have it released back to him.

The matter will be mentioned on April 15, 2026, at 11 am to confirm compliance with the court’s directions.
