Buoyant Raila meets Kenyans living in US as his 5-day tour kicks off
Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga is set to hold a town hall meeting with Kenyans in Washington DC, today as he embarks on his whirlwind tour of the US.
According to the itinerary seen by People Daily Digital on Sunday, Odinga will also engage Corporate America on Monday, April 25, 2022, followed by meetings with officials from the Executive arm of the US government on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.
“The engagements with the members of the Executive will give way to another with the legislative arm of the US government when Mr. Odinga meets key US Senate and Congressional leaders on Capitol Hill,” Raila’s press secretary Dennis Onyango said in a press statement.
Raila will also meet think tanks including the Atlantic Council and the Centre for Global Development.
Raila’s master plan
“This afternoon, Mr. Odinga will brief the Kenyan diaspora in the US on the state of the Kenyan nation, preparations for upcoming elections, and his post-election plans for Kenya,” the press statement adds.
It adds: “In his engagements with corporate America on Tuesday, Mr. Odinga will recognize and appreciate US corporations that have set up in Kenya and encourage more members of the group to take up the challenge to invest in Kenya.”
According to Onyango, Raila will brief the US corporates on prevailing opportunities in Kenya and Africa as well as call for collaboration in the war against corruption.
“He will brief the investors on preparations for the upcoming election and explain his post-election plans to make Kenya friendly to foreign investments,” he stated.
War against corruption
Odinga is also expected to brief senior officials of the US government on preparations for upcoming elections and post-election plans for Kenya.
In addition, the former premier will be calling for partnership to attract trade and investment to Kenya and joint efforts to fight corruption.
Odinga will be accompanied by governors Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), and James Ongwae (Kisii), as well as Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, former Aldai MP Dr Sally Kosgey, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, Kathiani MP Robert Mbui, Prof Mutua and former Kenya Ambassador to the US Elkanah Odembo among others.
San Francisco
When he is done with Washington DC, Raila’s second leg of the tour will be at the Silicon Valley, San Francisco where he will also hold talks with leaders and entrepreneurs in the IT and technology space with the aim of promoting partnerships.
Raila is expected to use his visit to explain to the international community what his coalition party- Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya stands for as the August General election draws closer.
