Raila meets Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has held a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan.
Raila met Haiyan on Monday, March 24, 2025, in the company of Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi.
“The Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Her Excellency Guo Haiyan @ChineseEmbKenya, accompanied by the CS Treasury and Economic Planning, paid me a visit. China and Kenya have historic mutual and cordial relations. We collaborate on trade, industry, technology, and infrastructure. Thank you for this visit,” Raila stated.
This comes less than a week after Raila held a meeting with Neil Wigan, the United Kingdom High Commissioner to Kenya.
In a statement after the meeting on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Raila said the meeting focused on Kenya’s long running relationship with the UK, the state of the Kenyan nation and the evolving international system.
“I had a very illuminating discussion with HE Neil Wigan, the United Kingdom High Commissioner to Kenya this morning focusing on our country’s long-running relationship with the UK, the state of the Kenyan nation and the evolving international system. I was happy to learn that the UK is keen to strengthen ties with our countries through a shift from traditional aid to economic investment,” Raila stated.
“I was also happy to hear from Mr Wigan of the UK and Europe’s determination to maintain engagement with the international community including Africa, on issues that have kept the international system working. Long live Kenya-UK partnership.”
A day after meeting the High Commissioner, Raila on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, hosted the US Ambassador to Kenya Marc D. Dillard.
In a statement after the meeting, Odinga expressed deep concerns over the crippling of USAID operations in Kenya, warning that the move could have devastating consequences on humanitarian services, particularly access to life-saving medication.
In addition to concerns over foreign aid, the leaders also discussed current affairs in Kenya and political developments in the USA.
“I hosted Amb. Marc D. Dillard, Charge d’Affaires, Embassy of the United States of America @USAmbKenya, who was accompanied by Political Officer Claire Thomas. We reviewed the state of the Kenyan nation and political developments in the USA, “Odinga stated.
“I expressed my deep worries about the crippling of USAID and appealed to the US government to rethink decisions that will affect access to humanitarian services, particularly access to life-saving medication.”
