Rachel Ruto calls for intercession for June and July amid protests threats
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, May 27, 2026First Lady Rachel Ruto has urged Kenyans to pray and intercede for June and July ahead of the National Prayer Breakfast slated for Thursday, May 27, 2026, given the tense atmosphere in the country and the critical events anticipated to take place during the period.
While speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast Women’s Convocation held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, the First Lady announced that the season was sensitive and could not be handled without the help of God and unity among the believers.
“I know I am addressing prayer warriors, but I think it was one of the senators, the sister from Kitui, who prayed for June. I feel in my spirit that we need prayer time for June and July. We are not new to what is happening in our nation; we are not new to declarations that have gone out there. I know that it is only prayers that can change things,” Rachel Ruto said.

As the country prepares for the National Prayer Breakfast, the comments from the first lady coincide with some big political moments in Kenya that are likely to influence the political discourse in the country.
Major political shake-ups in June and July
One of the major challenges that will be before Parliament in June is the Finance Bill 2026, which has already prompted the professional bodies, civil society organisations and parts of the Kenyan public to fault some of the proposed tax adjustments, as they may add to the cost of living for households and businesses.
The 2024 Gen Z street protests that spread throughout the country will also pass a year in June, as young people took to the streets to boycott punitive taxation, government issues and economic struggles. When widespread demonstrations were seen in several towns, it became an important political event and garnered national and international notice.

There is also anticipated to be a focus on July and the yearly Saba Saba celebrations that take place every July 7, a date that historically has been a day of democracy, accountability and reforms in Kenya. Expect political leaders, civil society organisations and youth groups to conduct activities and public gatherings throughout the day.
Rachel made this call for prayers in the National Prayer Breakfast Women’s Convocation, which was attended by women leaders, lawmakers and government officials for worship and reflection before the main National Prayer Breakfast.
