Qatar jobs scam youth want Senate to step in

By , February 17, 2023

The row surrounding a job recruitment scam which saw more than 2,000 youth   in Rift Valley allegedly fleeced billions of shillings through promises of jobs in Qatar has now found its way into the Senate.

A group of petitioners and residents of Uasin Gishu County have now written to the Senate seeking its intervention in a bid to recover their money they paid to Eldoret-based First Choice Recruitment and Consultancy Limited for the jobs which flopped.

The aggrieved youth led by Kimutai Kirui (pictured) of the Centre Against Torture claim that their efforts to seek redress through security agencies and other relevant bodies have proved futile.

“We call on Senate to intervene in this matter with a view to recommend that the youth and their families be reimbursed their money and the perpetrators brought to book,” the petition communicated to House by Speaker Amason Kingi reads.

The petitioners want the Senate to come up with regulations to ensure recruitment agencies are thoroughly vetted.

The petitioners claim that the victims have been arrested on drummed up charges without taking them to court in a wider scheme to intimidate them.
