Punguza Mizigo II in the works

Defiant Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot has vowed to launch a fresh bid for a plebiscite after failing to secure backing for his Punguza Mizigo Bill (PMZ) in the County Assemblies.
He cited “political jealously” from the ruling class as the reason for the bills defeat but promised to push back against those who scuttled it in phase two of his referendum bid.
“It is unfortunate that some well know political charlatans saw our noble cause as political competition. We are now emboldened more than ever,” he said during a presser at his party headquarters.
Public pressure
Aukot claimed the party has received numerous calls from members of the public not to abandon the course.
“We have therefore, headed the public call and we have now put together a team of legal and technical experts who have already started work on the Punguza Mizigo phase II that will be enriched with the views we collected from the county assemblies and any other new proposals from the public,” he said.
Aukot said MCAs had raised concerns in the first bill over seven-year term single presidency as well as 30 days’ trial period for thieves of public money.
