Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati has insisted that aspirants vying for positions in the upcoming general elections must resign six months to the polls.

Speaking on Monday in Nairobi, Chebukati said the Court of Appeal set aside Justice David Marete’s ruling that gave public officers a reprieve on the requirement.

Last month, the electoral commission unveiled the 2022 election timeliness, requiring civil servants seeking to run for office to resign by February 9, 2022.

The law requires that public officers seeking elective seats resign six months to a general election.
