PSC opens search for new National Lands Commission bosses
The Public Service Commission (PSC) has officially advertised for the positions of chairperson and members for the National Land Commission (NLC).
In a statement through its X page this Friday, August 29, 2025, PSC stated that the application process will run until Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Invitation for applicants
“Now therefore, and pursuant to the provisions of Sections 7 and 8 of the Act, and the First Schedule thereto, the Selection Panel invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the positions of Chairperson and Eight (8) Members of the National Land Commission,” part of the PSC statement read.

According to the commission, the individuals interested in the chairperson position should meet the following requirements:
(a) hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya:
(b) have knowledge and experience of not less than fifteen (15) years in matters relating to any of the following fields:
(i) public administration:
(i) land management and administration:
(management of natural resources;
(iv) land adjudication and settlement:
(v) land law, land survey, spatial planning or land economics:
(vi) social sciences.
meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution, and
in their respective fields. (d) have had a distinguished career.
Land commissioners
For the eight vacancies in the position of the land commissioners, members are required to meet the following:
hold a from a university recognized in Kenya:
(b) have knowledge and experience of not less than ten (10) years in matters relating to any of the following fields:
public administration;
land management and administration: (i) management of natural resources:
(i) land adjudication and settlement:
(iv) land law, land survey, spatial planning or land economics, or
(v) social sciences.
meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution; and
(c) and (d) have had distinguished career in their respective fields.
PSC has also spelled out grounds for disqualification in line with compliance with Section 8 (3) of the National Land Commission Act, Cap 281. Stating that:
A person shall not be qualified for nomination and appointment as Chairperson or Member of the Commission if the person is a member of Parliament or County Assembly, is an official of a governing body of a political party, or has at any time within the preceding five years, held or stood for election as a member of Parliament, a county assembly, or as a governor.
PSC has also stated that being an undischarged bankrupt, convicted of having committed a felony, or having benefited from or facilitated an unlawful or irregular allocation, acquisition, or use of land or other public property would also amount to disqualification.
Mode of application
Applications are to be submitted online or delivered in hard copy to the Public Service Commission Secretariat’s Office.
In addition, applications should be accompanied by detailed CVs, a copy of national IDs/passports, copies of academic and professional certificates, testimonials, and any other relevant supporting documents.
