PS Omollo calls for tolerance and responsible governance in politics
By Faith Lagat, March 22, 2026Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has urged political leaders and aspirants to promote tolerance, peace, and responsible governance as the country moves closer to the 2027 general election.
In a post on X dated March 22, 2026, Omollo called on leaders to guide their supporters toward peaceful engagement in political activities.
“We call on political leaders and aspirants to foster tolerance and encourage their supporters to champion peace and responsible governance. Leadership, especially in public office, will be judged by tangible results, and H.E. President @WilliamsRuto stands out, with his nationwide development projects setting a standard that strongly positions him for reelection.”
The remarks come amid increasing political activity across the country as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the next general election.
Political violence
Omollo’s statement adds to earlier calls by security officials urging political players to avoid actions that could trigger unrest. Earlier this month, he warned against political violence and disorder while addressing residents during a visit to Nyeri County.

He reiterated that while Kenyans have the constitutional right to express their views, such freedoms must be exercised within the law.
On March 14, while speaking at a burial in Kisumu County, the Principal Secretary also appealed to young people not to allow politicians to incite chaos for political gain.
The calls come as political mobilisation continues in different parts of the country, raising concerns about maintaining peace and stability during the early stages of the election cycle.
Focus on development and governance
Omollo said leadership in public office should be judged based on performance and service delivery. He pointed to ongoing development initiatives across the country, including infrastructure and economic projects being implemented by the government.
Some of the projects cited include the dualling of major highways such as the Rironi–Naivasha–Nakuru–Mau Summit road and plans to extend the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha toward Kisumu and Malaba.
Other initiatives include the Talanta Sports Complex being constructed ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, the Bomas International Convention Centre project, irrigation programmes such as the Galana-Kulalu scheme, and blue economy projects, including fish landing sites in Kisumu County.
Omollo said maintaining peace and responsible leadership would help ensure the country continues on its development path as political competition intensifies ahead of the next election.
