PS Kibicho shares podium with Andrew Ngirici in rare show of unity
Interior PS Karanja Kibicho and Kirinyaga billionaire businessman Andrew Ngirici, who have been long-standing political foes, now seem to have buried the hatchet if their unprecedented camaraderie at a past meeting is to go by.
Andrew Ngirici, a flamboyant businessman and spouse to Kirinyaga woman representative Purity Ngirici, flanked Kibicho to the meeting meant to create awareness on the importance of peace as the county gears towards hosting the Mashujaa day celebrations
The duo’s political enmity is believed to have been fueled by Ngirici’s unwavering support for Deputy President William Ruto, who has fallen out of favour with President Uhuru Kenyatta and state mandarins, including Kibicho.
The meeting was the first time in a long period that the duo have appeared together in public.
Thousands of residents drawn from across Kirinyaga county, among them bodaboda riders, attended the Kandongu meeting.
The meeting came few days before a similar meeting of Kirinyaga county leaders in Kutus, Tuesday September 14.
According to Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru, the Kutus meeting will bring together elected leaders from the region. She says the leaders will highlight some of development projects that will be presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta for implementation, as perks before the end of his second term.
“We will come up with a memorandum on some of the issues that we would like addressed before next year’s general Elections,” said Waiguru.
