PS Fikirini Jacobs’ bodyguard freed on Ksh20K bond

Police Constable (PC) Rashid Charo, a bodyguard attached to Youth Affairs, Creative Economy under the Ministry of Sports Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs, linked with the death of a Nairobi youth, has been freed on a personal bond.

PC Charo was arrested on July 1, 2026, after he presented himself at the Muthaiga Police Station after the public uproar after being linked to the death of Cecil Otieno Anyango.

He was later arraigned in court the same day on a miscellaneous application where the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) sought to detain him for seven days to complete their investigation.

The court granted the DCI custodial orders to allow the complete investigation into the murder of Anyango, and Charo has been in custody.

When the matter came up for mention on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, before Makadara Resident Magistrate Julius Mayiah, the prosecution requested more time to complete the investigations.

However, Magistrate Mayiah released Charo, who is a person of interest in the death of Cecil Otieno Anyango, who was killed while leaving a function he had attended at Social Hall, Kariokor.

“The respondent is hereby released on a personal bond of Ksh20,000 pending the completion of investigations on the matter,” Magistrate Mayiah ruled.

According to the court documents, Anyango is said to have boarded Fikirini’s official vehicle after a meeting they had on June 30, 2026, prompting the PS driver to drive towards Pangani Police Station while being pursued by members of the public on foot and on motorcycles.

Further, the papers reveal that during the ensuing commotion, members of the public pelted the motor vehicle with stones, and in the course of the incident Charo discharged his firearm, fatally injuring Cecil Otieno.

The deceased was rushed by well-wishers to Park Road Nursing Home, where he was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.

The matter will be mentioned on August 10, 2026, for further directions.
