Project Power – a superhero film at the heart

By , August 25, 2020

Project Power is a superhero film at the heart of which is a father desperately looking for his kidnapped daughter.

Jamie Foxx plays the overwrought father who joined the army to escape a bad neighbourhood, only for the army to experiment on him as they looked to create an army of super humans.

The tests did not work. However, genetic mutations achieved in the experiment would pass on to his daughter, played by Kyanna Simpson, bequeathing her with superpowers.

She is then kidnapped and used as an unwilling source for a super drug called Project Power.

The drug can either give you a superpower, from being invisible to being bulletproof, or blow your chest out.

Foxx is joined in the search for his daughter by a rogue cop Joseph Gordon-Levitt who takes the drug to level out the playing field with criminals, and a vivacious teen Dominique Fishback, who peddles the drug to pay for her mother’s diabetic drugs and treatments.

Project Power is a film with a tight plot, a serious cast that manage to kick butt while getting a few comical lines in, and a lesson in how science can be weaponised.

It is a film that should be on your watch list, if not for the great fight scenes then for the superheroes who do not wear capes. Score: 9/10
