Prince Philip dies aged 99

Prince Philip, the duke of Edinburgh peacefully died in his sleep, Buckingham palace has annonced. He was 99 years old.

In February The Duke of Edinburgh was briefly admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital on ‘precautionary measures’ following doctor’s advice.

The Prince Philip married Princess Elizabeth in 1947, five years before she became Queen, and was the longest-serving royal consort in British history.

The couple had four children, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
