Kericho, Nyandarua, Machakos and Lamu county governments collected the lowest amount of revenue against their set targets during the first nine months of the current financial year.

A report by the Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o for the period shows that Kericho county government headed by governor Eric Mutai collected only 30.8 per cent of its set target while Nyandarua county government, headed by Moses Kiarie Badilisha could only manage 27.1 per cent of its set targets.

Machakos county government, headed by governor Wavinya Ndeti did not better, only managing 26.3 per cent of its set target. Lamu county government headed by Ali Timamy could only manage to collect 20.7 per cent of the annual target.

The report shows that the Kericho county government had set a target of generating Sh1.2billion as OSR but in the last nine months, has only managed to collect a paltry Sh392.3million.

Nyandarua county government had set a target of Sh1.2billion but has only managed to collect Sh332.5million while the Machakos county government was to collect Sh4 billion but has only managed Sh1billion while Lamu was to collect Sh350million but has only collected Sh72.6million.

“There was under-performance in own source revenue collection at Sh41.40 billion, which was 51.3 per cent against an expected performance of 75 per cent of the annual target,” reads part of the report.

Other county governments that reported below 50 per cent performance of their annual OSR targets include Mandera headed by governor Mohamed Adan Khalif, Bungoma (Ken Lusaka), Homa Bay (Gladys Wanga), Kakamega (Fernandes Barasa) and Busia (Dr Paul Otuoma).

Others include Kisumu (Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o), Nyamira ((Amos Nyaribo), Kiambu (Kimani Wamatangi), Laikipia (Joshua Irungu) and  Kisii (Simba Arati).
