Kenya is mourning the death of Phoebe Muga Asiyo, the trailblazing former Member of Parliament for Karachuonyo, who passed away on July 17, 2025.

Her passing has triggered an outpouring of grief from political leaders across the country, each acknowledging her significant role in shaping Kenya’s journey toward gender equality and inclusive leadership.

President William Ruto led the nation in paying tribute, describing Asiyo as one of Kenya’s most distinguished female leaders and a fearless legislator. He concluded by calling for a national renaissance and prayed for her soul to rest in eternal peace.

Boni Khalwale joined in the tributes, emphasising that Asiyo’s name, work, and legacy would remain indelible in Kenya’s history. He expressed deep respect for her contributions, stating simply that Mama Phoebe Asiyo should fare thee well.
