Police visit family of Garissa chief and teacher killed in early morning attack
The National Police Service team have paid homage to the family of the slain Garissa teacher and chief in Hulugho township.
The officers led by the Deputy Inspector-General of the Administration Police Service (DIG-APS), Gilbert Masengeli, condemned the attack on the teacher and the Chief.
In a statement by the National Police Service official X account on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the officers also visited teachers and pupils at Hulugho Primary School, where the teacher was working before his sudden death.
“The Deputy Inspector-General of the Administration Police Service (DIG-APS), Gilbert Masengeli, today represented the Inspector-General of the National Police Service (IG-NPS), Douglas Kanja, in Hulugho Township, Garissa County. He was present to console the family of the slain chief of Boma Location, the late Abdifatah Ghani,” NPS said.
At the time, Masengeli also met with teachers and pupils at Hulugho Primary School, where he shared his heartfelt condolences following the killing of teacher Peter Musili.

Assurance on security
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Douglous Kanja, in his message to the locals, assured the bereaved local community of Hulugho that the multi-agency security teams in the area are working tirelessly towards the arrest and apprehension of the criminal elements responsible for this senseless act, which claimed the lives of both a local administrative officer and a dedicated young teacher.
On the other hand, while noting that an incident of that nature had not occurred within the township before, Masengeli urged the community to collaborate closely with the security agencies by sharing vital intelligence for the benefit of all.
At the same time, the officers also visited the grieving widow of the slain chief, Aftina Shalle Wabi, who was attacked at the same time and whose car was burnt.
Notably, Chief Ghani was buried on Monday, January 27, 2026, in accordance with Islamic rites
“Masengeli also visited the grieving widow of the slain chief, Ms. Aftina Shalle Wabi, and conveyed the condolences of the National Police Service and the government. Chief Ghani was buried yesterday in accordance with Islamic rites,” NPS stated.
