Police seize illicit alcohol and drugs in Bungoma
Bungoma Police Station officers have successfully conducted an operation targeting illegal alcohol and narcotic drugs in Mteremko, Khalaba, Bungoma County.
The crackdown, carried out on Wednesday, October 30, 2025, led to the arrest of four persons of interest found in possession of contraband.
Among the items seized were five litres of Chang’aa, 20 litres of Busaa, and 20 kilograms of cannabis.
The four were taken to the police station along with the confiscated goods and are now in custody, awaiting processing and arraignment in court.
In a statement posted on X on Thursday, October 30, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) praised the officers for their dedication.
“National Police Service commends the officers for their unwavering commitment to the fight against illicit alcohol and narcotic drugs across the country,” NPS said.

Authorities say such operations are critical in curbing the circulation of illegal substances that pose risks to public health and safety. Illicit brews like Chang’aa and Busaa, often produced in unhygienic conditions, have previously been linked to poisoning cases and fatalities in different parts of the country. Similarly, the sale and distribution of cannabis remain illegal and are strictly punishable under Kenyan law.
The NPS also called on the public to play a role in combating these crimes. “We encourage members of the public to join this effort by reporting individuals involved in such illegal activities,” the statement added.
Community involvement is crucial, officials say, as residents often have the earliest insight into illegal production and distribution activities. Police urge anyone with information about illicit alcohol or narcotics to report it immediately to their nearest station or through official channels.
This operation reflects ongoing efforts by the National Police Service to safeguard communities from the dangers of unregulated alcohol and illegal drugs. Similar crackdowns have been carried out in other counties in recent months, showing a sustained commitment to public safety and law enforcement across Kenya.
