Police seize 460 litres of suspected chang’aa in Uasin Gishu
By Cy Muganda, January 17, 2026Police officers in Uasin Gishu County have seized 460 litres of suspected chang’aa in a targeted operation against illicit alcohol production and distribution.
In a statement posted on its X account on Friday, January 16, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Langas Police Station conducted the raid in the Langas area.
“In a sustained effort to eliminate the production and distribution of illicit alcohol, police officers from Langas Police Station in Uasin Gishu County conducted a targeted operation in the Langas area today, 16th January 2026,” the statement read.
Storage facility
According to NPS, the operation uncovered a rented room being used as a storage facility for the illegal brew.
“During the raid, officers discovered a rented room being used as a storage facility, where they seized 460 litres of the suspected Chang’aa,” the statement read.
NPS said investigations are underway to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the illegal trade.
“Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the illegal trade, with the aim of bringing them to justice,” the police service stated.
The National Police Service emphasised its commitment to sustaining and intensifying operations against illicit alcohol across the country.
“The National Police Service will continue to sustain and intensify similar operations across the country,” NPS said.

Crackdown on illicit brew
This operation comes weeks after the police seized 800 litres of chang’aa in Buruburu.
In a statement issued on Sunday, December 28, 2025, NPS disclosed that the officers raided a suspected den, successfully seizing the prohibited liquor, which had been concealed in polythene bags.

“Officers from the National Police Service (NPS) at Shaurimoyo Police Station, Buruburu Sub-County, yesterday conducted a targeted operation in the Majengo slums following credible intelligence regarding the illicit alcohol trade. The officers raided a suspected den, successfully seizing approximately 800 litres of Chang’aa, which had been concealed in polythene bags. One suspect was arrested and is currently in police custody awaiting arraignment,” NPS stated at the time.
