Police seize 3kgs of bhang in Murang’a anti-narcotic crackdown

Police officers in Murang’a East Sub-County have seized 3 kilograms of bhang and other related items in an intensified operation targeting illicit drugs in the region.

According to the statement released by the National Police Service on Sunday, November 16, 2025, the exercise is part of continued efforts to curb trafficking and substance abuse in the area.

”During an operation in Kiawamburi Village, officers recovered three kilograms of cannabis sativa, along with 14 rolls, 12 brooms, and Rizla papers. Several suspected stolen items, including solar accessories and related components, were also seized,” the NPS statement read.

Following the operation, one person of interest was arrested and taken to Murang’a Police Station, where he was held in custody pending processing and arraignment in court.

On Friday, November 13, 2025, police officers from Kabati Police Station arrested a suspected drug peddler while conducting a routine foot patrol in the Kabati area in the same county.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), a search of the person of interest led to the recovery of 20 rolls of cannabis sativa (bhang), which were seized as evidence. The man was escorted to Kabati Police Station, where he was booked and is now awaiting processing and arraignment in court.

Similar operations

Elsewhere in Kakamega County on Thursday, November 12, 2025, following a tip-off from the public, officers from Matungu Police Station intercepted a public service vehicle at Matungu Trading Centre.

Two male persons of interest were found to be in possession of approximately 15 kilograms of cannabis. They were apprehended and taken into custody.

Thereafter, the drugs were seized as evidence, and the men were scheduled to appear in court later the same day.

The Kakamega operation followed another successful crackdown on anti-narcotics, as police officers based at Sokohuru Police Post apprehended two male persons of interest who were found trafficking cannabis sativa along the Kisumu-Kericho highway.

The arrest followed a tip-off from the public, which prompted a rapid response and the interception of a suspicious motorcycle believed to be transporting the narcotics for distribution. During the operation, a suitcase containing 26 bales of cannabis, weighing approximately 50 kilograms with an estimated street value of Ksh 1.5 million, was recovered.
