Police recover pistol, KRA stamps and illicit alcohol in Nakuru raid
By Emmanuel Rono, July 21, 2026Police in Nakuru have arrested a person of interest after recovering a pistol, ammunition, body armour and nearly 1,000 litres of suspected ethanol during a raid at a residence in Oliver Estate, Kiamunyi, Rongai Sub-county.
The person of interest was arrested on Monday, July 21, 2026, in the evening following an operation by security officers targeting suspected criminal activities.
According to Rongai Police Commander Daniel Birech, officers recovered a 9mm Ceska pistol magazine, 29 rounds of ammunition and other items believed to be linked to criminal activities.
“We recovered one empty magazine and a magazine of a 9mm Ceska pistol with 29 rounds of 9mm ammunition. This one is used by the Ceska pistol,” Birech said.
Police also recovered a bulletproof vest from the house.
“We also managed to recover body armour that is bulletproof from the same house, which we believe sometimes these criminals might be using to do major criminal activity within Nakuru County,” he added.
Items recovered
During the operation, officers seized approximately 990 litres of suspected ethanol, 30 empty jerrycans and suspected counterfeit Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) excise stamps, as well as labels for various alcoholic drinks.
Birech said the ethanol was packed in 33-litre containers and alleged the suspect attempted to dispose of some of the chemicals before police gained entry.
“Upon gaining entry at the main gate, we recovered 30 packs containing suspected ethanol, amounting to 990 litres. We also managed to get 30 empty jerrycans that we suspect, upon the suspect seeing us outside, they decided to pour into a septic tank,” he said.
Investigators believe the recovered ethanol and packaging materials were intended for the manufacture of illicit alcohol.
The person of interest remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue. Authorities are also pursuing further leads to establish whether he is linked to a wider criminal network involved in illicit alcohol production and other offences.
