Police recover firearm belonging to MP Kaluma’s bodyguard
By Mabonga Makhanu, November 27, 2025Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilim has confirmed the recovery of a firearm belonging to Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma’s bodyguard, which was lost after the MP was attacked at the Agoro Sare polling station.
While addressing the media after the firearm was recovered on Thursday, November 27, 2025, the police boss said that after a hot pursuit of the goons who had made away with the gun, they dropped it, and the police were informed through their own intelligence.
The firearm is now with the police and ready to be handed back to the MP’s aide.

He added that the gun had not been altered and was in the same condition, with no ammunition used or lost.
The police commander further stated that a total of 23 goons had so far been arrested in Kasipul Kabondo. They had been ferried into the constituency to cause chaos during the by-elections and were found with crude weapons such as pangas, batons, machetes, knives, and metal rods.
“Because of the hot pursuit of the goons, they dropped the gun somewhere, and we were informed by our informer through intelligence, and the gun is with us complete, and nothing has been lost. We were able to recover so many crude weapons; we recovered a lot of pangas, a lot of machetes, a lot of knives, and a lot of al,” Koilim said.
The attack
This comes after the Homa Bay Town legislator, who was at the Agoro Sare polling station as an agent for the area Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Boyd Were, was roughed up by a group of rowdy youths, leaving him injured and his shirt stained with blood.

The MP, while addressing the matter shortly afterwards, claimed that the goons belonged to Kasipul independent candidate Philip Aroko and that Aroko had incited them to attack him.
He added that the rowdy youths were from Mathare, Kibra, and Ruaraka and were all known.
“And he was telling them as I’m talking with them, ‘Beat him. These youths are from Kibra and Mathare; these youths are from Ruaraka, and we know all of them,” Kaluma stated.
