Police recover bhang, make arrest in crackdown
Police in Murang’a County have intensified their crackdown on narcotics, leading to the arrest of one person of interest and the recovery of 26 rolls of bhang.
The Tuesday, August 26, 2025, operation in Gatanga marked a significant step in the National Police Service’s (NPS) efforts to curb drug abuse in the region.
Acting on a tip-off from the public, a joint team comprising officers from Kirwara Police Station and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) stormed Ngesha Village in Ithangarari Sub-Location.
“Earlier today, a multi-agency security team acted on an intelligence tip-off from the public. The team, comprising National Police Service officers from Kirwara Police Station and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) from Kigio Location, moved swiftly to Ngesha Village in Ithangarari Sub-Location, where they arrested one suspect, “read part of the NPS post on X dated August 26, 2025.
The person of interest was apprehended and escorted to the police station, where he remains in custody pending processing and arraignment.
“A search of the suspect led to the recovery of 26 rolls of bhang. He was arrested, escorted to the police station, and placed in custody pending processing and arraignment.

The NPS commended residents for their cooperation, stressing the importance of community intelligence in supporting security operations.
“The National Police Service appreciates the continued cooperation of the public, particularly in sharing information,” NPS noted.
Operation in Kisumu County
In a related operation, police in Ahero Town, Kisumu County, intercepted a motorcycle suspected of ferrying narcotic drugs during a routine patrol. The rider defied orders to stop, prompting a brief chase toward the Kamindubi area, where he abandoned the motorcycle and fled.
A search of the abandoned motorbike uncovered four green sacks containing a substance believed to be cannabis sativa. Both the motorcycle and the exhibits were secured at Ahero Police Station, with investigations launched to trace and arrest the suspect.
The NPS reiterated its commitment to using intelligence-led operations to dismantle drug networks and urged the public to continue sharing information with law enforcement to ensure safer communities.
