Police pursue protesters in Isiolo Speaker arson attack
By Kwach Wakhisi, July 25, 2025Detectives in Isiolo have intensified search for violent protesters who torched a breakdown lorry that the police intended to use in towing the Isiolo County Assembly Speaker’s official vehicle from his residence.
The move came as a recovery effort following reluctance by the immediate occupier Mohamed Roba Qoto to relinquish the official car for use by his controversial successor Abdullahi.
Banticha as the fight for the mace now turns ugly. Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding said that the police were discharging their mandate to recover the vehicle in question when the embattled speaker Mohamed Roba allegedly mobilised his supporters who moved the ill-fated lorry outside his compound and set it on fire.
Omoding sent a tough warning to members of the public to desist from being misused to commit criminal activities in the name of protecting the interests of their political leaders.
“All those involved in this incident of burning the vehicle will be arrested and subjected to the full force of the law. This is a wake-up call to anyone who is aggrieved to always use the courts of law to have their grievances heard and addressed rather than resorting to anarchy,” said Omoding.
The County Assembly of Isiolo has witnessed a series of challenges since the MCAs moved a motion to oust Governor Abdi Guyo from office through impeachment, a motion that was dropped by the Senate.
