Police in Kisii county are probing a shooting at an event attended by governor Simba Arati (pictured) at Boikanga Ward in South Mugirango constituency.

County Police Commander, Charles Kases said sleuths are on the ground to investigate the incident. “We are aware of the incident and our investigators are looking for suspects.”

On Monday, residents scampered for safety at Nyakembene market after gunshots rent the air.
Bursary fund

Arati who was presiding over the release of Ward bursary fund had started speaking when his speech was disrupted by the gunshots.

His security officers whisked him away as locals stumbled and suffered injuries as they fled.
Former Kisii Municipal Council Mayor, Patrick Siro, Human Rights Activists Anthony Ombaye and Alice Osero condemned the incident, terming it wrong and unacceptable.

They told supporters of Arati and area legislator, Silvanus Osoro to respect each other and shun chaos at public functions.

“Arati and Osoro have different mandates. We do not expect their supporters to be clashing,” Siro said.
He said the election was over and challenged the leaders to unite and work together.

Osero said it was wrong for people to disrupt the meeting, noting that it creates tension and unnecessary anxiety.
