Police are investigating the death of an officer who was found dead off the Manyatta-Kianjokoma road in Embu County on Saturday.

Preliminary investigations did not reveal whether Constable Collins Wafula, 35, was hit by a speeding car or murdered. His body was discovered hours after he was seen leaving an end-of-year party at the Embu North Deputy Commissioner (DCC) headquarters, where he was stationed.

The Embu North police boss Benjamin Kiprono said the deceased was seen leaving the party and heading towards Kianjokoma, where he later joined a group of friends for drinks at a bar in the area.

However, his movements after that remained unclear until the time his body was found.

The officer’s lifeless body was discovered by a passer-by in the Kavutiri area, who promptly alerted the authorities.

“It is not yet clear whether this was a hit-and-run incident or if the officer was murdered elsewhere and his body dumped on the road,” said Kiprono.

The police boss urged residents with any information that could assist in uncovering the circumstances surrounding Wafula’s death to come forth and aid police with it.

The body was moved to the mortuary for further investigations.

Elsewhere in Mbita, Homa Bay, a police officer collapsed and died in unclear circumstances. The deceased constable of police was attached to Sena police station. He was on duty and looking fit when he collapsed and died, according to his colleagues.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

Meanwhile last week, at least 15 people, including a police officer and four pupils drowned in various parts of the country.

The Nyanza Region police commander reported that the body of Administration Police Constable Isaac Yano who went missing on Tuesday was found in a flooded trench along the Chemelil-Awasi road.

The officer was last seen on Monday and never reported for duty on Tuesday.

“A search and rescue team was dispatched and the body was found at around 1pm on Tuesday,” police said.

It is suspected that the officer was drunk. He had been battling alcohol addiction and had earlier been admitted to a rehabilitation hospital, according to his seniors.
