Police are on the spot over the increase in killings and abductions within the country, with over 15 cases reported in the last two months.

According to the police headquarters, a comparative analysis of murder cases reported from August to October for the years 2022-2024, indicates a slight increase.

In 2024, a total of 339 murder cases have so far been recorded, compared with 336 cases in 2023 and 341 cases in 2022, respectively.

The distinct manner of the recent abductions and some of the killings point to the work of a well organised group, presumably security agencies, and concerns have now been raised on the apparent laxity of the police to conduct thorough investigations.

The Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja yesterday said the cases were being investigated and urged the members of the public to partner with the Police, by reporting any criminal activities or suspects to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ Homicide Unit or nearest police stations.

“We further wish to assure the public of our commitment to investigate these heinous acts of crime to their logical conclusions and bring the perpetrators to book,” Kanja said.

One of the latest mysterious killings is that of Willis Ayieko, the Wells Fargo Human Resource director whose body was found in a stream in Gem, Siaya county. Ayieko went missing on Friday last week after attending a funeral in Gem. The vehicle was found abandoned at a petrol station in Sabatia, Vihiga county.

Gory abduction, murder
Ayieko had left the funeral to spend the night in his home but it is suspected that he was abducted by unknown people who killed him. His hands were handcuffed behind his back, and the eyes and tongue had been gorged out.

“The DCI Homicide Unit is progressing with the investigation into this case,” the IG said.
On Monday, another woman, her daughter and niece were also murdered, in a similar manner, and their bodies dumped in separate locations in Nairobi.

According to a police report, Waris Daud, her 21-year-old daughter Amina Abdirashid, and her 12-year-old niece Nuseiba Dahir disappeared on Monday night before their bodies were found the following day.

The woman’s body was found in a bush in Machakos while the two others were found in Parklands and Bahati, respectively. Amina’s body was half naked and had visible injuries.

“The body had several stab wounds on her back, chest, hands and head. The scene looked undisturbed with no signs of struggle,” police report read.

“The bodies of Nusayba, Amina and Dahabo were found at Bahati in Makadara, 6th Avenue Parklands and Khyumbi, in Machakos respectively, with the hands of Dohabo chopped off,” police headquarters added. The girls had left home on Monday evening to look for their mother who had gone to seek treatment but failed to return home.

MCA mystery
Mystery into the killings deepened when the DNA test of the body suspected to be of the Della Ward missing Member of County Assembly (MCA) turned negative.

Yussuf Abdulahi Ahmed was abducted on September 13, while on board of a taxi driven by Kioko Wambua from South C where the taxi driver confirmed the abductors were armed with AK 47 rifles.

The pathologist confirmed that the badly mutilated, hitherto believed to be of Abdulahi who was abducted on September 13, was actually not his implying that another person had also been murdered.
The body had been retrieved from Lake Yahud in Wajir. The eyes had been gorged out and his body badly tortured.

“Autopsy conducted on October 21, 2024 by the Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor in the presence of the family doctor, Dr Daniel Zuriel and local Members of Parliament, at Wajir County Referral Hospital Morgue, has established the cause of death to be head injury due to blunt trauma,” Kanja said.

Yesterday, the family lawyers led by Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Adhiambo, Danstan Omari, Sam Nyamberi and Shadrack Wambui urged the court to issue habeous corpus for the government to produce the MCA.

On Sunday, a decomposing body of a male adult was discovered in lake Yahud in Wajir County where two family members said it belongs to their kin. The condition of the body prompted the DNA test to establish the identity.

On August 19, three men including two brothers and their friend were abducted in Kitengela, Kajiado County and released after one month. The brothers, Jamil Longton, 42, and Aslam Longton, 36, were discovered in Gachie while Bob Njagi, the Free Kenya Movement coordinator, was also found in Thogoto, Kikuyu.

Abductors identity
That the detectives could not track the abductors nor thoroughly investigate the matter after they were released to establish the identity of the abductors points to the possible involvement of the government security agencies.

In another case in Kajiado, James Nyaata Onchiri, 62 years old and an advocate in Kajiado County, was seen on October 21, 2024 at about 6pm, together with his office messenger Erick Ondiek at the Kajiado Public Works Canteen in a motor vehicle Reg. No. KBQ 488P Mitsubishi pick-up before his body was discovered on October 22, 2024 morning.

“CCTV footage retrieved by the investigators for forensic analysis has shown Erick Ondiek dragging the deceased from the bar towards the vehicle, before he reverses and runs over the deceased, then flees the scene leaving the car behind,” police said.

Police also said on Wednesday, two human hands were recovered at South C along Five Star Road. In another case, the body of Seth Nyakio Njeri, 23 was discovered in her friend’s house on October 14 at Blessing Building in Biafra Estate, Thika Township.
