Police nab person of interest in Nakuru gang operation
By Faith Lagat, March 21, 2026Officers from Kaptembwo Police Station have arrested a person of interest linked to a notorious gang in the Gioto area of London estate, in a major boost to security operations in Nakuru County.
The breakthrough occurred on March 20, 2026, during routine patrols after officers received credible intelligence about the individual’s presence.
The person of interest, who has a long history of involvement in multiple robbery-with-violence incidents, had been evading capture following an earlier police operation. He was apprehended in a swift, targeted operation.
During the arrest, a sharp dagger was recovered, and he cooperated with officers, leading them to his makeshift residence. A thorough search uncovered a homemade pistol carefully concealed inside a blue canvas bag. All exhibits have been secured as evidence.
NPS confirms arrest
The National Police Service (NPS), through its official X account (@NPSOfficial_KE), confirmed the arrest, stating the individual remains in custody. Investigations are ongoing ahead of arraignment in court.
“This arrest marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to dismantle organised criminal groups and enhance security within Nakuru County,” the NPS noted.
The operation follows a major intelligence-led crackdown on March 10, 2026, in the same Kaptembwa area. Police arrested nine persons of interest at Shoppers Paradise and the Sokoni area for alleged involvement in mobile phone snatching and selling stolen devices.

Officers recovered assorted mobile phones, flashing cables, specialised software devices, and other accessories believed to be used for illegally altering IMEI numbers.
Additionally, 16 rolls of bhang were seized, highlighting links between petty theft, organised crime, and narcotics distribution in the region.
Intensified security amid rising crime
These successive operations reflect heightened security efforts in Nakuru following a surge in violent crime earlier this month.
Residents in estates including London, Gioto, and Hilton have reported increased fear after several brutal incidents, including killings linked to knife-wielding gangs.
Police have vowed to maintain pressure through intelligence gathering, community partnerships, and targeted raids to restore peace. Authorities say more operations are planned, with the aim of deterring offenders and rebuilding public trust in the county’s safety.
