Police nab man linked to theft of 29 donkeys in Kajiado

Police officers from Ilbisil Police Station in Oloililai Sub-County have apprehended one man linked to the theft of at least twenty-nine donkeys in Kajiado County.

In a statement by the National Police Service (NPS) on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the Police confirmed the recovery of all twenty-nine donkeys believed to have been stolen.

“Police officers from Ilbisil Police Station in Oloililai Sub-County have successfully recovered 29 stolen donkeys and apprehended a key suspect following a swift dawn operation,” NPS said.

According to the police report, the recovery operation was triggered by actionable intelligence from the local administration, which led to the interception of the animals.

Subsequently, the police revealed that the animals were intercepted at a time when they were being driven from Lorngosua towards Bisil Township.

Upon interception, the officers managed to apprehend one man, while two of the persons of interest fled from the arrest.

“The recovery operation was triggered by actionable intelligence from the local administration. The officers intercepted the animals being driven from Lorngosua towards Bisil Township and successfully arrested one suspect, while two managed to flee,” NPS stated.

On the other hand, the officers confirmed that the person of interest was swiftly moved to police custody for further police processing.

“The suspect was placed in custody for further police processing. A multi-agency manhunt is actively underway to track down and apprehend the two accomplices who fled,” NPS stated.

Meanwhile, according to the police, 25 donkeys have already been positively identified and handed over to their owners, while four are pending identification.

“The National Police Service commends the National Government Administration Officers and members of the public for the prompt and accurate information, and also lauds the police officers for their swift response that led to the recovery,” NPS stated.

At the same time, NPS has urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
