Police officers from Mtwapa Police Station carried out a targeted operation in the Majengo area on Thursday, September 18, 2025, on the outskirts of Mtwapa Township, following a report of a theft. The operation led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of several stolen items.

According to the National Police Service, the first suspect apprehended during the raid guided officers to a nearby scrap metal yard. A subsequent search of the premises uncovered assorted spanners, workshop tools, and one roll of barbed wire, all believed to have been stolen. Three additional suspects were arrested at the scene, bringing the total number of persons of interest in custody to four.

“All suspects were placed in custody pending processing and arraignment, while the recovered items have been secured as evidence at the same facility,” the police statement confirmed.

The operation is part of an ongoing effort by the National Police Service to combat crime in Kilifi County and the wider region. Authorities emphasised the importance of proactive policing and community involvement in curbing theft and related offences.

“The National Police Service reiterates its unwavering commitment to combating crime. Similar operations will continue across the region to ensure the recovery of stolen property, the arrest of offenders, and the enhancement of public safety and security,” the statement added.

Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly to their nearest station. Such cooperation, officials say, plays a crucial role in ensuring that stolen property is recovered swiftly and criminals are brought to justice.

The Mtwapa operation underscores the focus of local law enforcement on curbing organised theft and protecting residents’ property. With the arrests and recovery of stolen items, the National Police Service hopes to send a clear message that crime will not be tolerated in the region and that community safety remains a top priority.

As investigations continue, authorities have assured the public that follow-up measures will be taken to prevent further incidents and strengthen security across Mtwapa and its surrounding areas.
