Police in Murang’a nab bhang worth Sh5 million.
Police in Murang’a have nabbed bhang with a street value of Sh5 million, and arrested two people on Friday evening.
The two suspects were intercepted by police officers along the Kenol-Sagana route following a tip off by the members of public.
According to Josephat Kinyua the county police commander, the two were are ferrying the bhang in a land cruiser and had fake IDs to purport they are staff from Isiolo County government.
Kinyua said the bhang was stacked in ten sacks and value estimated to be Sh5 million.
The police boss said the drugs had been imported from the neighboring Ethiopia and the peddlers made their way through the Isiolo corridor.
The suspects also had Sh190, 000 which the police believe was to bribe their way through numerous road blocks.
“It appears that these people are used to transporting bhang and their main market is in Nairobi” he said.
Kinyua said the highway is largely being used by the drug peddlers to sneak in drugs into the country pointing given its easier accessibility to Nairobi.
“We have a multi-agency team which has been its keeping its eye on this road and several people have been arrested in possession bhang though in small quantities,” he remarked.
Kinyua said the suspects shall remain in police custody and will be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
He said the bhang shall be handed over to the anti narcotics team for further assessment.
