Police officers in Nandi County have intensified their war against illicit alcohol, destroying over 3,000 litres of local brew and dismantling brewing equipment in a major operation conducted on Friday, January 10, 2026.

In a statement posted on their X account on Saturday, January 10, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) announced that officers from Nandi South Sub-County had raided several villages in Kapkerer Location, targeting illegal brewing dens that had been operating in the area.

NPS said the operation targeted Kipsigak, Baibai, Chepsis, and Kipkurui villages, where officers destroyed a total of 3,010 litres of Kangara, a popular illicit brew in the region.

“During the raid, officers destroyed a total of 3,010 litres of Kangara and dismantled brewing apparatus found concealed in bushes, along rivers, and within forested areas,” NPS stated.

“Additionally, 60 litres of Chang’aa were recovered from a residential property and secured as evidence,” NPS added.

Suspects on the run

According to NPS, the suspected brewers managed to flee the scene upon noticing police presence, forcing officers to continue their pursuit of the culprits.

“Suspected brewers fled the scene upon noticing the police presence. Investigations are proceeding at full speed to apprehend the suspects,” the statement read.
