Police assures public of security in Nairobi CBD after daring attack on businesses
By Mabonga Makhanu, August 25, 2025The National Police Service (NPS), through its spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, has reassured members of the public of their safety within Nairobi’s Central Business District following the incident at Nanak House on August 22, 2025.
In a statement released on August 25, 2025, the NPS acknowledged a media report that raised concerns about rising insecurity in the CBD. The service clarified that the report did not reflect the true state of affairs and moved to provide details on the matter.
According to the NPS, detectives who investigated the Nanak House incident established that it was a deliberate attack targeting four businesses in the building.
The service further explained that the attack was linked to an internal civil dispute, which is already being handled in court.
The NPS confirmed that one suspect has already been arrested and assured that further arrests and progress in the investigations are expected.
The service added that these details had been provided earlier by the regional police commander responsible for Nairobi.
“Following a careful analysis of the incident that took place on Friday, 22nd August 2025, at Nanak House, detectives have ascertained certain facts. These point to a deliberate attack on four businesses within the said building, which appears to be linked to an internal dispute of a civil nature, a matter that is already before the court.” They stated
Security in CBD
In its statement, the NPS emphasised that Nairobi’s Central Business District remains one of the safest areas for business operations.
The Service underscored that the CBD holds a special place as the capital’s economic hub and insisted that the overall security situation in the country remains commendably good due to sustained operations carried out daily by security agencies with the support of the public.
“The National Police Service wishes to assure the public that Nairobi Central Business District remains one of the most secure areas in which to conduct business. Its status as a symbol of the capital city cannot be overemphasised. Furthermore, the general state of security across the country remains commendably good, a result of the efforts executed on a daily basis alongside the invaluable support of the public.” They added.
Pleading with public
The NPS urged members of the public to continue working closely with law enforcement officers by reporting any instances of crime. Citizens have been asked to use toll-free numbers 999, 911, and 112, or FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203.
The service has also provided a new WhatsApp number, 0709 570 000, for easier reporting.
Reaffirming its position, the NPS stated that it remains committed to protecting citizens and combating all forms of criminality across the country.
