Police arrest 5 people linked to illegal brews in Siaya County
Police officers from Gem-Yala Sub-County have arrested five people linked to the manufacture, possession, distribution and consumption of illicit alcoholic drinks in Siaya County.
In a statement by the National Police Service on X on Sunday, June 14, 2026, the officers, in collaboration with the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), announced an intensified operation in Gem-Yala Sub-County.
“The National Police Service, in collaboration with the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), has intensified operations targeting the manufacture, possession, distribution and consumption of illicit alcoholic drinks in Gem-Yala Sub-County, Siaya County,” NPS stated.
According to the Police Service, following a multi-agency operation conducted in North Gem sub-location, officers recovered 38 litres of chang’aa and 240 litres of kangara.

The arrest
The officers further confirmed that it was during the crackdown in North Gem Sub-Location that the five persons of interest were apprehended in connection with the illegal activities
“In a multi-agency operation conducted in North Gem Sub-Location, officers recovered 38 litres of chang’aa and 240 litres of kangara. Five suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal activities,” NPS stated.
The five persons of interest are in custody pending arraignment in court as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the National Police Service has commended local administrators and members of the public for their cooperation in combating illicit alcohol and substance abuse.

At the same time, the National Police Service has called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any information on the production, distribution or sale of illicit brews to the nearest police station.
